Small business accounts: Keeping your IM books straight with Free Agent

I don’t know about you but I have so many different income streams from my IM activities that it can be difficult to keep track of the incomings and outgoings. Even if you’re only treating your internet marketing as a hobby you should still be declaring your income, which means you need to keep track of your accounts. An Excel spreadsheet might sound like a great idea to begin with but unless you’re au fait with double entry book keeping you might have trouble getting your numbers to add up!

A month ago I decided that I needed to get my books in order so I spent some time searching for an online book keeping service. Many online book keeping software providers offer a trial period of some sort so I signed up for a few and put them through their paces.

The online bookkeeping service I found the most easy to use (and easy on the eye) was Free Agent. You can import your transactions from your bank account and PayPal making it easy to keep up to date with your income and expenditure. It also works in multi-currency with a built in exchange rate database. There is even the option to build your own quotes and invoices which will come in handy for me in the future. All in all I was very impressed and this morning I decided to sign up and hand over my credit card details. I had the choice to pay monthly ($20) or annually which gave me 12 months for the price of 10 so I opted for the latter.

If you’re looking for a book keeping service for your IM business so that you can keep your small business accounts in order then head over to http://www.sevensomewhere.com/book-keeping and sign up for your free 30 day trial. You don’t have to give your credit card details to start the trial and if you decide to sign up at the end of the 30 days you’ll get a 10% discount just for signing up through my link :)
